Field Trip with Sydnee

Yesterday was fun... I went with Sydnee and her classmates on a field trip to the Clark Planetarium. It was the first time the school chartered a bus for us to ride on. Normally the parents have always driven for all the field trips, so getting to ride on the bus added to the excitement of the day!

Sydnee's class has been studying about space, the solar system and keeping a daily log of what the moon is like each night.. all in preparation for their reports that are due soon. The presentation under the stars in the dome theater was really cool.. at the end of it we went on a virtual roller coaster ride!

We celebrated St. Patrick's Day with a fun Luck O' the Irish Dinner!

On the Menu:

green pepper clovers & ranch dip
sage roasted chicken
cracked pepper & parmesan broiled asparagus
lime water
+
green lemon glaze cake

The kids totally got into the whole thing.. and so did Andres & I actually! It was so much fun... we can hardly wait to do it again next year. I just wish I could bake only half the bundt cake next time, that lemon glaze cake is my weakness... I've had 3 too many servings over the last 24 hours and I'm so glad Andres just took dibs on the last piece!

After we tucked all 5 kids in, snug as a bug in a rug.. and the 3 dogs too, it was our turn. We snuggled up close and watched Far & Away til we both drifted off to sleep. We hadn't watched it in such a long time and it reminded me of our early days together... we used to watch this movie a lot when we first got married, when it was just the two of us. I'd forgotten how much I liked the music, the cinematography and some of the lines in the movie.. 'This is our dream together. I don't want this without you. I loved you. I loved you from the first time I saw you.'

OH MY JIFFY LUBE!

I just looked at the calendar and realized...

All she wanted was a new bike!

Sydnee was so excited when she walked out in the garage to go to school the morning of her birthday and there it was... the new,  bigger bike she wanted with curly ribbons hanging from the handle bars and a big "Happy Birthday" balloon tied to the seat! She had to give it a spin before going to school!!!

-Breakfast-
Donuts
Fresh Fruit
Milk & Juice

*If ya haven't ever tried the blueberry donuts from Harmon's Bakery.. Oh my goodness, You're missin' out! You absolutely must! They are sooooooo yummy, I dream about them!

That afternoon, we made a special delivery of balloons with a bag full of big boxes of Spree Candy to hand out to her class! She said all the kids thought her treat was the best birthday treat yet!!!

Later that night, we went out to dinner with Grandma & Grandpa! They gave her a new Our Generation doll and she l-o-v-e-d it! The rest of the kids gave her some art supplies she'd been asking for, and cream argyle leggings!

Roadtrip! - (part 2)

Saturday we knew the weather was going to be chilly. We thought we might bundle up the kids and go 4-wheeling a bit.. but instead we decided to make it a "hang-out day." We took the kids back to the park again. They had so much fun the day before and Marcus wanted to try jumping out the swing now that he didn't have a cactus sliver in his finger. After the park we went to The Junction for ice cream shakes & sundaes then home to watch movies & play games!

I totally remember doing this as a kid.. we used to put our trampoline in front of the swing set and jump out of the swing onto the trampoline too!

 pile-up!

These rocket balloons provided hours of entertainment!!!

The kids were havin' a blast dressin' up the little ones in different costumes and Sydnee and Marcus decided to comb out RJ's curls into a "fro" when he came up the stairs Kallie & I laughed so hard, and then somebody said "Oh..Oh.. lets put a pick comb in the back!"  and we laughed even harder!

Kallie's dog Missy loves to cover herself up when she lays down to sleep, this is how I found her when I came into my room to go to bed on Saturday night. She's a cute little beagle and slept on the bed by my feet every night!

Roadtrip!

Last Thursday I gathered up the kids, all our stuff and hit the road for a visit with Kallie in Kanab! We went last year over spring break and it was so fun.. we decided to do it again this year, only we weren't goona be able to go over spring break this year so I snatched the last three-day weekend in the school year and off we went!

The kids had a blast playing together. R.J. is such a clown and has my kids fully entertained at all times. All six of 'em sacked out on their new basement floor like a bunch of sardines in blankets for a big slumber party each night. They laughed 'til their tummies ached blowing up balloons and watching them fly through the air with a screaming noise like a deflating torpedo coming in for a big landing and McKaela told the joke of the weekend:

  • What happened to the Indian???  He drank too much tea and drown in his teepee!

Friday, the weather was really nice. Kallie and I packed a picnic and took the kids to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument for a hike  to see the naturally formed rocks that resemble toad stools. I took a ton of pictures.. as usual!

(Ya gotta go.. when ya gotta go!)

If you look closely you'll see sand in McKaela's teeth!
What?
Yeah, she was eating the sand.. Kallie kept telling her to stop but she seemed to think it tasted like ice cream.
She must be craving some minerals...

(Tanner laid down on this big rock for a little rest in the sun and it totally reminded me of my Dad.. he loves to lay down for a nap outside and he always wears a hat and puts it over his head like Tanner did)

(Whenever the boys take a picture of me or anything for that matter... they take a gazillion, one right after another. So this is what Chandler calls a slide show of me!)

(We think this bird was a Golden Eagle that we saw land on top of a big rock mountain while eating our picnic, it's wing span was huge!)

...and that's the end of our hiking adventure and picnic in the sun!

When we got back into town, we stopped for a some bottles of water and headed to the park where:
  • Marcus learned the hard way, got a sliver from a cactus & sat around with a sore finger the rest of the time
  • Chandler mastered jumping out of the swing and got pretty dang high
  • Sydnee & McKaela did the spider
  • Tanner & RJ loved the slides
  • Kallie & I gave underdogs
  • Some random little girl with an unattentive mom decided our waters looked good and tasted a little from every bottle
  • and just before leaving for home we competed in some races together

 (Now that's high!!!)

(Look Mom.. No hands!!!)

On your mark.
Get set.

GO!

After showering all the kids... we ate a yummy homemade meatball and spaghetti dinner + garlic bread & salad, tucked the kids all in with a movie and then we played cards!

What a fun day!!!
..and for the rest of the trip, I'll post that later.
