Monday was the day that we picked up camp and made our way back home.
But first...
...the kids put some finishing touches on the fort they'd been working on!
It was slightly overcast and all the big animals were out & about causing traffic jams and such...
We saw a Mama Grizzly down in the meadow with it's two cubs..
..and a black bear mozy'in around on a hill near the car!
We also drove all the way out to the north entrance of the park just so we could see if this giant rock structure was still standing, created by act of congress March 1, 1872!!! We had seen an old photo of it at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel with a stage coach parked under the archway entrance & thought.. if it was still standing it would be so cool to see in person.. and it was!!!
Then we drove into the little Montana town outside the north entrance and got some lunch before heading back into Yellowstone to continue our journey out the west end of the park on home.
One of the best things about that last day was... we got to see all the animals we'd set out to see before our trip through Yellowstone National Park came to an end, the moose being the last was the icing on the cake!!!
The drive home was nice & peaceful.. filled with funny jokes my grandpa used to tell, lots of potty stops and the smell of rain through the cracked windows! I loved it and savored every last minute of our vacation time together...
